Trailhead Directions: Angeles Crest Hwy. (Rte. 2) to parking lot at Islip Saddle (paddle 64.10, 40 mi. from 210 exit). There is a restroom available at the saddle.
The Hike: From Islip Saddle, hike up the Pacific Crest Trail 2.2 miles to Little Jimmy Campground. Once in the campground, turn right, and follow the trail up to Mt. Islip, which is 1.4 miles further. Return via same route, or if you follow the trail that turns right to Windy Gap and then return to Little Jimmy Campground via Little Jimmy Spring, you will save 0.1 mi. Return via the Pacific Crest Trail.
For those who want a longer hike, after summiting Mt. Islip, continue along the Pacific Crest Trail from Windy Gap, and on to Mt. Hawkins. The fire lookout that used to be on Mt. Hawkins burned down in 2002.
