HISTORY

In 1989 Hughes Aircraft Company came up with a Golden Handshake plan to let some of their older employees retire early.  It was a fairly generous plan with the wonderfully bureaucratic gobbledygook title, "Organizational Transition Plan", which meant everything and nothing at the same time.  Some of the retirees from Space and Communications Group, at the instigation of one of our founders, Dick Rauhut, decided to hike together every week and thus maintain contact with friends made over the years at work.  We thought that the group might stick together perhaps six months.  The group has prospered and grown over the years although many of the "Originals" have dropped out.
